A month or so ago, I was hired to write a song. Angela emailed me and said that her boyfriend Chris was leaving and, as much as she loved him and as much as it hurt to let him go, she knew she couldn't stand in the way of him realizing his dream. She said she wanted to gift him a song because music was so important to him. As I listened to her tell me the story of how they met, the circumstances that would keep them apart and, really, just why she loved him, I found myself in tears. It was clear that she wanted him to find his happiness above all else; even her feelings. I'm finding it a difficult thing to explain but, what I felt from her was so pure and so selfless. I can't speak for her but it said to me, "I love who you are and taking your freedom to find what you want would change who you are. I won't do that.". It was a beautiful and heart-wrenching thing to write about. I cried several times in the process. Every word of the song is taken from something personal she shared with me. Special thanks to Mack Damon for affording me some time in the studio to record a quick version of it to share with you. It was my privilege to write it and I hope Angela and Chris are both very blessed wherever life takes them.
